1st AmBank-Malaysia Beach Volleyball Masters 2011
INTRODUCTION

In November 2010, Asia Oceania Committee Volleyball for Disabled initiated and hosted a conference on Para Beach Volleyball in Kuala Lumpur with the participation of 8 countries (Australia, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Slovakia, United Kingdom and United State of America) whereby para volleyball experts gathered to formulate strategies and approaches to kick-start the para beach volleyball programme with the ultimate objective of getting it into the Paralympic Games.

Due to the nature of the event i.e. being outdoor and played on sand, Malaysia is kick-starting the Para Beach Volleyball Standing event in Shah Alam this coming October 2011 in the follow-up to the conference held last year. Collaborating closely with the AOCVD and the APC, it also aspires to have the event featured in the 2014 ASIAN PARA GAMES in Korea either as a Medal event or an Exhibition event.

OBJECTIVES
To initiate a new category and a variation of para volleyball i.e. beach volleyball-standing to the Malaysian volleyball community in particular and the WOVD family, in general.

To enable technical human resource development; technical officials, classifiers and referees, to be trained and accredited.

To provide an insight into the study of beach volleyball-standing as a potential and feasible paralympic sports.
